What’s Your Diet Plan?

What’s Your Diet Plan?

I remember the first fad diet I was aware of. It was the dead of winter in West Virginia, about a little less than thirty years ago.

The plan required the dieters to consume large amounts of grapefruit and grapefruit juice. Stores could not keep them in stock.

I remember it because several of my friends were on it and complained loudly about the expense and rarity of their desired weight loss tool. It looked like a singularly silly idea to me at the time, and now I realize why. It didn’t have a prayer of being a long term solution to an ideal weight.

There are a lot of diets out there, and they all say that they can help you drop lots of weight in just two weeks. If they say that, don’t walk away, run. That is not the right way to do so, and it could do your body a lot of harm.

Banana Diet: This is a great hit in Japan right now. There is very little restriction on what you can eat, and no need to exercise. Hm, that sounds like the plan that got us overweight to begin with. We do have to be careful of what we eat, and having a banana for breakfast does not mean you can do what you want with the rest of your meals.

HATT Diet: This stands for “Hungry All The Time.” Many diets, including those that actually work will leave you hungry some of the time, especially if you are used to eating large meals. There are a couple of things you can do about it. One, make sure you burn a lot of calories. Second, eat foods that satisfy you on fewer. Whole grain bread and lean protein can give you the feeling of fullness.

Low Carb: For some people, this diet might work. However, make sure you do eat the kind of carbs that keep you healthy and your bowels moving. Whole grains are carbs you need. Also, be sure to take a good supplement to get the vitamins and minerals. One thing to watch out for on these diets is gout. Protein contains a component called purine. The waste product from that can cause this excruciatingly painful condition.

SeeFood Diet: As a kid, that’s the diet I was on. I was underweight and did not appreciate the benefits of being able to eat what I wanted.

Now, I can’t and it has been a hard habit to break. If you are on this diet, talk to your doctor or a nutritionist to make sure the food you see is good for you.

In fact, that’s the place you should start before beginning any diet or exercise program. That way, you’ll know how much of which exercises are best for you and you can get a diet that is rich in nutrients instead of calories. This will help you reach your goal weight.
