Metro Vancouver Within a 30 minute drive of downtown Vancouver riders will find huge parks with great riding trails and spectacular views of the mountains, the city and the ocean! Southlands is one of the best known and is located in a quiet neighbourhood on Vancouver’s west side. Trails follow the Fraser River and slowly twist and turn through stands of cedar and fir trees leading to Pacific Spirit Park near the Univeristy of British Columbia.
Enthusiastic riders will also delight in wilderness trail rides in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve on Vancouver's North Shore. Trails lead through spectacular old growth forests, along meandering creeks and rivers at the foot of the North Shore Mountains.
Mighty Fraser Country
In Mighty Fraser Country there are numerous exciting opportunities for horseback riding, both guided and independent. Some of the most extensive trails are found in Golden Ears Provincial Park - located near Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows - where there are more than 20 km (12.4 mi) of gravel and dirt horse trails.
In beautiful Manning Provincial Park, visitors will enjoy horseback riding along the historic trails. Trotting beside wild rivers, crystal lakes, towering peaks, and alpine meadows, riders find themselves enjoying the breathtaking views. There are designated trails for horses with horse camps on several of the trails, which are open to riders only in the summer.
A number of scenic trails cross through Mighty Fraser Country, including popular trails in Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge, Langley, Missions, Abbotsford and Chilliwack. Because the communities are located near the Fraser River floodplain, visitors will find these trails to be easy and relatively flat.
Sea to Sky Country
Head high into the Chilcotin Mountain range guests can saddle up at one of the charming guest ranches in Gold Bridge or Bralorne. Get treated to old-fashioned hospitality, homestyle cooking, and a relaxed western atmosphere. On an overnight pack horse trip, guests are guided through trails that lead high above the treeline into spectacular alpine meadows covered in wildflowers. If you prefer day trips, visit the outfitters in Squamish, Whistler, Pemgerton and Lillooet. Follow the riverbanks through secluded forest trails, along sandy beaches, and through grassy meadows. In the wintertime, riders in the Squamish Valley watch one of nature's spectacles from horseback as the majestic bald eagles feed on the salmon spawning below.
