North of Whistler is Pemberton, gateway to the interior and backcountry of British Columbia. Pemberton is the service centre for the communities of Pemberton, Mount Currie, Birken & D’Arcy.
Pemberton traditionally was a logging, ranching and farming community that lays claim to the title of “Disease Free Seed Potato Capital of Canada”. It’s also becoming more a resort town, with cafes, restaurants, lodges, bed & breakfasts as well as many local arts and crafts shops. The whole region is threaded with rivers, coursing through steep walked alpine valleys and dotted with glacier fed lakes, forests, hot springs, parks and campsites. With abundant snow in winter and warm summers, it’s a year-round playground for every sort of outdoor pursuit, from golf and horseback trail riding to fishing, hiking, cycling, glider and jet boat tours, or snowmobiling and heliskiing. A new motorcross and stock car race track on highway 99 south of Pemberton hosts a number of events yearly.
