Xa:ytem Longhouse Interpretive Centre - Mighty Fraser Country

Xá:ytem is a 9000-year-old ancient Aboriginal village site near Mission, in the heart of the Fraser Valley of BC, that features a sacred transformer stone and “BC’s oldest house”. Xá:ytem welcomes visitors to learn, interact, and experience Sto:lo, history, culture, archaeology and spirituality. Sto:lo means People of the River in their Halq’emeylem language and is a living culture that welcomes 15,000 visitors a year.

The visitor is offered fully-guided tours, a choice of a number of hands-on cultural, archaeology or fishing programs; workshops such as basket making, drum making, salish weaving, and mask craving; cross-cultural awareness seminars, and immersion and overnight programs. There is 4,000 square foot longhouse, two pithouses (circular underground dwellings), a visitor and an archaeology sifting shelters, and a gift gallery that offers local Native art as well as souvenir items and books. The site offers ample free parking and is wheelchair accessible.
