Mountain: Unofficially, Sea to Sky Country has the highest concentration of mountain biking trails found anywhere in Canada. Inspired by the area's natural beauty and its wondrous terrain, trail builders have dedicated countless hours in the forest to create some of the most remarkable mountain biking experiences on the planet. Squamish is known for its flowy freeride trails and epic cross country terrain. Each year the town hosts the legendary Test of Metal, a 67 kilometre mountain bike race that covers only a small portion of the hundreds of kilometres of trails and back roads in the area. Just north of Squamish is Alice Lake Provincial Park with a number of easy and more difficult cross country trails, some of which are closed during the peak camping season in July and August. Brohm Lake is only 5 kilometres further up the highway from Alice Lake and offers an extensive new trail area.
According to those serious about mountain biking, Whistler sets the trend that others follow. There is somethng for every age and ability - high speed lift-access riding in Whistler Bike Park, epic endurance rides above Green Lake and in the Upper Cheakamus Valley, a challenging skills park in Whistler Village, serene forest trails around Lost Lake, and more
Pemberton has become a haven for many of the local riders who seek something challenging away from the main streem. There are numerous intermediate and advanced trails that are close to town on the north and south sides of Mosquito Lake and the Mackenzie Basin. For those with the "right stuff", the historic Tenquille Lake Trail north of Pemberton is a gruelling climb into pristine alpine that rewards hardy riders with a picturesque 4,000 foot single track descent on the return.
Road: Sea to Sky Country is sought after destination for cycle touring. Not only do you see magnificant mountains, but you also experience their size. Steep climbs along portions of the Sea to Sky Highway are just a warm up for Duffy Lake Road between Pemberton and Lillooet, with some grades reaching 13% as you roll over the high mountain passes. Please note that portions of the Sea to Sky highway between Vancouver and Whistler are currently being upgraded in preparation for the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Other great road rides include the Squamish Valley Road, a beautiful 38 kilometre (24 mi) out and back ride on a quite country road with views of the snow capped peaks of the Tantalus Mountains and Mount Garibaldi.
Whistler to D'Arcy is another beautiful route through narrow valleys, covering almost 100 kilometres (60 mi) one way and is suitable for a 2 day return trip. After travelling from Whistler to Pemberton, follow the D'Arcy-Anderson Lake Road from the community of Mount Currie. Nairn Falls and the Pemberton Museum are interesting points along the way.
Leisure/Scenic: In Whistler the trails around Lost Lake are great for the whole family and the paved Whistler Valley Trail provides an excellent way to see what Whistler is all about. There is also peaceful scenic riding through parts of the Squamish and Pemberont Valleys.
