When eating healthy isn’t made a priority many times people suffer side effects such as weight gain, acne, high blood pressure, heart disease, bone loss and muscle loss.

The bad news is that most of these ailments can lead to serious health problems and even death, but the good news is that they’re all preventable and better yet, reversible.

Following a heart healthy diet that is low is saturated fats while high in fiber and protein as well as essential vitamins and minerals is the best way to lead a healthy, long life without a lot of the complications many people suffer from in today’s world. This doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy something sweet now and then, or share pizza with some friends once in awhile- this is about focusing on overall eating habits.

Some oils are important and necessary so they shouldn’t be cut out altogether but instead incorporated into a diet in a healthy way. For example, consider using avocado on sandwiches in place of mayonnaise. Other ways to get good fats as part of a healthy diet is to make sure a tablespoon of almonds are sprinkled on your salad, olive oil is used to cook with and to make salad dressings, peanut is put on toast for breakfast and flax seeds are used in stir-fry meals.

Of course as with everything else, it doesn’t matter how healthy your diet is if you aren’t eating in moderation. Even too much of a good thing is too much- be sensible, eat right and exercise on a consistent basis and you will start to see encouraging results in no time
