Exercise Techniques to Avoid Eye Strain

Exercise Techniques to Avoid Eye Strain

Your eyes get more stressed today than ever before. With all the craze about using computers and digital gadgets, you need to find a way to protect your eyes. You can practically avoid having poor eyesight as a result of eye strain by doing a few simple steps.

Cause of Vision Problems

Even if you already have vision problems, you can still improve your eye health by changing how you use your eyes. Take time to practice simple techniques to relax them. Taking away the stress and tension from your eye muscles can go a long way.

Eye strain is one of the primary reasons for poor eyesight. Almost all people have good eyesight from birth. Statistics say that only 2% of newborns have eye deformities. So, why do so many people need to wear eyeglasses because of poor vision?

It is because of poor visual habits. Many students become used to staring up close without taking breaks, be it while reading books or using the computer. They take this habit with them to college and even after landing a job.

This staring up close habit causes tension in the eye muscles. With lack of exercise, the eye muscles become weak. The result is the eyes lose focusing power and eventually suffer poor eyesight.

But there’s something you can do to re-strengthen your eye muscles. You can do a series of eye exercises regularly. Doing this is a natural way of improving your vision. This will help you whether you use eyeglasses or not.

Exercise for the Eyes

There are signals you can watch out for to tell you that your eyes are stressed out. Eye strain signs include burning eyes, headache, eye twitches and tension in the eyes. When you feel these symptoms, you need to take a break and relax your eyes. Here are what you need to do:

Eye Relaxation

  • Find a quiet place. Clear your mind with any concern or worry that you have.
  • Relax and close your eyes.
  • Take a deep breath – inhale and exhale. Deep breathe a few times.

This simple technique will refresh your eyes, so you can use them again without strain.

Another relaxation technique you can do is palming your eyes. To do this, rub your palms until they will warm. Next, close your eyes and put your cupped palm over them lightly. Imagine deep blackness and take deep breaths. Once you see total blackness, you can take off your palms from your eyes. Repeat for 3 minutes.

Eye Rolling

  • Close your eyes.
  • Roll your eyes clockwise. Do this a few times.
  • Now, roll your eyes counter-clockwise. Do these a few times.

Just by doing these simple eye exercises, you can avoid a lifetime of poor vision. Some have even become less dependent on eyeglasses.

Develop the right habits when it comes to using your eyes. Avoid staring up close too long without taking breaks. You will be thankful that you did because you’ll enjoy good vision for many years in your lifetime.
