A New Year, and a new way of doing business

Well, maybe not so new, but definitely an expansion of our desire to engage more partners in the programs and services that we offer based on communication with our business and community partners. You will see elsewhere in this e-news the opportunity to participate in a webinar about the Chinese resident market. This is the first in 2012 of a series of webinars that will provide a level of education leading to a program and/or service that Vancouver, Coast & Mountains provides.

Others to follow over the next several months include motorcycle touring, green tourism, family travel, the GLBT market and market-specific webinars including Alberta Washington. Each webinar will be led by someone with knowledge and expertise in the field, with support from one of our staff.

Also, Jason will provide his second trade webinar, having attended a number of shows in the fall of 2011, and Andrea will coordinate a media relations webinar after her spring shows.

There are other possibilities in the research phase, e.g. LOHAS (lifestyles of health and sustainability). We would welcome your ideas too. Please e-mail Kevan directly at kevan@vcmbc.com.

Increased Air Access to British Columbia

In efforts to promote increased air access to our province, Rob Howard, MLA for Richmond Centre, met recently in Ottawa with Federal counterparts. As he reported in his December newsletter, the benefits of improved air access, beyond the convenience of more flight choices and more affordable fares, has been estimated to benefit the Provincial economy by $800 Million.

How can you help?

  1. Write a letter to the Federal Government supporting enhanced air access.
  2. Share your air travel concerns via Facebook - ‘Open Skies 4 Canada’
  3. Arrange for a representative to come and discuss air access issues with your group and/or association.
  4. Use your networks and/or newsletters to promote the benefits of more international traffic.
  5. Let your MP know of your support for enhanced air access.

For more information please visit Rob Howard's website.

Through proactive and reactive efforts, Tourism BC and Vancouver, Coast & Mountains have produced $8.2M in unpaid media coverage for the region.
