PDMO Taskforce Update - September 2

Since our last meeting, August 24, 2011, we have been in research mode, with conference calls and ongoing exploration. Our commitment to the PDMO model is to be as thorough as we can be, consulting industry experts, and researching like models. Dave Butler, Chair of PDMO Task Force had a very positive specific conversation with Minister Bell last week during which Minister Bell voiced his strong support for the process and hard work of the PDMO Task Force. He also voiced continued support as we move forward. We are also prepping our Industry Engagement Plan. Our next PDMO Task Force meeting is September 7th and again September 14.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact any one of us:

Media Report

Ay, ay, ay! The weather is hot, hot, hot – and so is the media relations department at Vancouver, Coast & Mountains! September is bringing in journalists from near and far spanning all mediums and all genres.
Journalists from across the waters have been looking to the region for travel story ideas that take advantage of the lingering warm weather systems AND the end of season deals. Local writers have been out and about in each destination area and are reporting back on their adventures. From action-packed weekends to epicurean escapes, readers from across the province are learning about their own back yards – and isn’t that the best place to enjoy the season anyhow?

Many thanks to the communities that participated in the Tourism BC media story project. All your ideas have been collated into one regional submission. This project will allow Andrea and the Tourism BC Media Relations team to access a wide variety of information easily and stay on top of the events happening across the region. Of course, please call or email Andrea if you have any products or promotions that should be on our radar!

Andrea is currently in the final preparation stages for GoMedia Marketplace 2011. In 2 short weeks she will be meeting with top journalists from around the globe and highlighting the qualities that make each destination area an ideal travel spot!

For questions or for more information contact Andrea Visscher, Regional Media Relations Representative at 604.484.5361 or andrea@vcmbc.com.

TIC 2011 Speaker Highlights Include ...

Keynote Profile: Grant McCracken, Economics & Anthropology Expert

BC as a Moveable Feast! Cultural Secrets and BC Tourism

Grant McCracken's presentation looks at using culture to promote BC and the tourism industry. Using four cultural trends Grant will show how these can boost visits and engagement in big cities and small ones, for traditional tourists and more experimental ones. Like every market, tourism has fragmented from one big market, to many smaller ones and we can use culture as a way to find the niches and work with them all.

Speaker Profile: Lance Saunders, Executive VP, Managing Director, DDB Canada

Marketing Myths and Realities: 2012 edition

There is no question that the tools we have today to reach potential consumers have never been greater. So why does it seem then that connecting with them has never been harder? This is especially true in the Tourism Sector where the advent of digital and social media offerings has put the consumer clearly in control. Does this mean that how you are marketing your product is all wrong? This presentation is planned to make you feel both confident that what you are doing still matters, but what matters most today might leave you feeling a little bit anxious as well.
