PDMO Taskforce Update

As indicated in our last communiqué, TIABC`s PDMO Task Force met again on September 14.

This meeting focused strictly on gathering more information following our commitment to be as thorough as we can be. We had a very thorough briefing from Grant McKay, Assistant Deputy Minister, Tourism Division (Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation) regarding the details of the current PDMO funding model. We also spoke to other organizational and political advisers about the structure and funding of the previous TBC organization and how we in tourism can best present our eventual model to government. As well, we reviewed a competitive analysis of how other jurisdictions have structured their marketing organizations and discussed next steps.

We`ll continue to meet over the next few weeks to tie down the details of a draft PDMO model. That will be the basis for our discussions with you. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact any one of us:

· Dave Butler - Task Force Chair – daveb@cmhinc.com

· Kevin Walker – kevin@walkerhospitality.com

· Dan Stefanson – dstefanson@tourismabbotsford.ca

· Ingrid Dilschneider – idilschneider@predatorridge.com

· Ingrid Jarrett – ijarrett@watermarkbeachresort.com

· Gordon Johnson – rgjohnson@deltahotels.com

Regards,

Ingrid & Ingrid

New Partnership with Green Tourism Canada

Vancouver, Coast and Mountains is pleased to announce a new partnership with Green Tourism Canada that will help tourism operators in our region to reduce their carbon footprint and become more sustainable in their daily operations.

The demand for “green” tourism options continues to grow in the global marketplace. As environmental concerns mount, consumers are becoming more discerning in their travel decisions. It is more important than ever for tourism operators in our region to reduce their carbon footprint and adopt a triple-bottom line approach to their business.

Through ongoing support and education, Green Tourism Canada provides a road map in sustainability for operators to follow.

To help us determine the interest and requirements of tourism operators in our region, we invite you to take 5 minutes out of your busy schedule to take this short survey. Your feedback is important to us.

Sustainable Tourism Guide Available

Tourism British Columbia is pleased to announce the release of a new Tourism Business Essentials Guide!

Sustainable Tourism

Sustainable Tourism is a practical guide to making your business more sustainable, efficient, and successful. By understanding and applying the three pillars of sustainability – environmental, social and economical - businesses can realize financial savings and help create stronger businesses and communities.

The Tourism Business Essentials guides are free, practical resources for tourism operators to learn more about the tourism industry and about how to build their businesses. When reading these guides, we encourage you to think of each guide as a single ‘chapter’ within the much larger ‘book of tourism’ - and not just as stand-alone publications.
