Detoxifying the Body through Fasting

Detoxifying the Body through Fasting

You probably have heard about fasting. It’s a popular topic not only because of its religious significance, but also because of its health benefits. Not all people understand the health benefits of fasting. If they do, most people would be fasting. Hopefully, this article will give light to this subject matter.

The Liver and Detoxification

The liver is a very important organ of the body. Its main task is to detoxify. It breaks down substances that enter the body. Together with the spleen and kidneys, they flush out the toxins from the blood and tissues. Water soluble toxins go out of the body via the urine and fat soluble toxins go out via the feces.

When these organs are doing their job, there’s no need to take any extra supplement to flush out toxins. The problem is these organs can become overwhelmed with their task. This happens when people keep on eating more but are living a sedentary lifestyle. Cutting down the intake of food and being more active help to lessen the burden that these organs have to take on.

Significance of Fasting in Detox

Studies have shown that there is a direct relationship between digestion and aging. The more times a person eats, the more he ages. When a person fasts or does not eat any food for 24 hours (most drink water when fasting), the body is able to rest from performing the digestive processes thereby suspending the process of aging.

Every time a person eats, he takes in some toxins together with the macro and micronutrients from food. If these toxins are not successfully removed from the body, they become stored in the fat cells. The body usually uses up the carbohydrates first as source of energy. When the carbs are all used up when fasting, the body is forced to use up the stored fats. This is not only good for those who want to lose weight. It also gets rid of the toxins trapped in them.

Whether you take any supplemental product or not, the healthy organs of your body, the liver in particular, will still do its work of detoxification. It has been given the ability to process and get rid of unwanted substances in the body.  But, with too much food to process, toxins end up being stored in different parts of the body.

Fasting offers good benefits for the body. When a person fasts, the digestive system is given a rest. The liver, spleen and kidney can take the time to go on full power to flush out toxins from the body. The result is detoxification as well as the slowing down of the aging process, better overall health and longevity.

The only question is, are you willing to fast? Most people are used to eating three meals a day plus snacks.  It’s not easy to miss a meal because you will feel hungry naturally.  Most people, including doctors, do not recommend fasting because of negative and varying opinions about it.

But for those who have been doing the proper way of fasting, they’ve found their secret to having a clean body, healthy life and longevity. Some even claim that it helped cure their illnesses, including gout and arthritis.
