Steak

Steak is a great source of protein of course, but it does kind of depend on the cut of steak that you eat in terms of the protein content. Something with a little more fat like a rib eye will give you around 1 gram of protein for every 11 calories. Whereas a lean cut like a round steak will give you 1 gram of protein for every 7 calories. The average for steak is around 23 grams of protein for every 3 ounce serving. If you are going to eat the leaner steaks you should only cook them until they are medium rare or just medium at the most, because they have low fat content they dry out quickly.

Chorizo

This fantastic Spanish or Mexican style sausage is nice and spicy and it has just as much protein as it does heat. These pork sausages are great for putting into scrambled eggs, salads, soups, or even on sandwiches too. Chorizo actually contains over 21 grams of protein for every 3 ounce serving.

Halibut and Salmon

halibut is a great fish for protein because it only has 2 gram of fat for every 3 ounce serving, but it still manages to have over 223 gram of protein in that same serving. Halibut is good pan fried, barbequed, or even baked and with just a little bit of lemon juice it tastes fantastic. On a side note you should probably get Pacific halibut as opposed to Atlantic halibut because it is more sustainable. Salmon actually has the same amount of Protein per 3 ounce serving as the halibut, but it does have quite a bit more fat. Make sure that it is Sockeye Salmon because it has over 25 percent more protein than regular salmon.

Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is pretty fatty but you can always opt for a low fat version of this nutty stuff. Peanut butter is great because it has over 8 grams of protein for every 2 tablespoons that you put on your bread or bagel.

Cottage Cheese

Given many people don’t particularly enjoy cottage cheese, it is however a very good source of protein. It contains a little more than 14 grams of for every half cup serving. Cottage cheese contains a special kind of protein known as casein protein, which is a slow digesting protein that supplies growing muscles with a steady supply of proteins as well as amino acids. You should always remember to compare different varieties because it is known to be pretty high in salt.

Pepperoni

pepperoni is one of those deli meats that works great for a sandwich and it is of course a classic for pizza too. Pepperoni can be pretty salty and high in fat content, but you can find brands that are low in both. Pepperoni is very high in protein and contains over 18 grams of the stuff per 3 ounce serving.
